Ryuugen like the rest of the Scions, got sacrificed one by one, and during his last moments... "Forgive me for this selfish act of mine, but this isn't my fight to bear. I'll see you on the other side Meteor."And when he gets summoned back by Emet-Selch and Hythlodaeus, "I... told you I'd meet you on the other side." Scratching the back of his head in embarrassment. And after exchanging a few pleasantries... "Move forward with Stride, Warrior of Light. I'll be right behind you." (Mimicking what Ardbert said but he isn't aware of it, and Meteor feels it.)

Ryuugen follows WoL to Ishgard, not intending to join them just yet, and just simply saw them to safety when they reached Ishgard. "This is where we part ways Warrior of Light. You won't see the last of me just yet. If you see Nyx? Tell him to stay safe."He joins the army once more, honing in his Lancer skills in the form of a Dragoon instead now. Ryuugen becomes a known Dragoon in his platoon, eventually taking up missions at the request of the Scions. Similar to scouting missions like Thancred does in secret. Works alone, gets things done, renowned for his deadpan stoic personality. Public is unaware of his Morals, he does what is good, but he doesn't seem like a person who receives compliments about his good work like he should. (I.e., he can be praised for a job well done, he would simplify it as "It's my job. Nothing to be praised about" kinda vibes)In the middle of learning Dragoon during this arc, eventually being part of the Scion's light party during The Vault. Haurchefant was somebody he was tasked to protect, and eventually killed off the person who took his life after the events of The Vault.

| A Realm Reborn

He continued on in his robinhood tendencies until he meets Thancred. He was seen as a peculiar individual who might have a connection with some of the primal summonings in the area. Turns out, he was a mercenary who so happen to be working on a job that accidentally helps the client's intention to summon a primal. After they all worked together to stop it from happening, Thancred had come to trust and appreciate Ryuugen after talking to him for a bit and see how he works. He introduces him to the scions, but declined to join due to his self-image issue. "You don't really know me. Don't believe that I have good intentions. However, you know where to find me if you need a mercenary." He salutes and leaves, leftover habits from when he was a soldier in Gridania.Nyx was a mercenary who works with the Scions quite often, and in due time is how Ryuugen starts to get acquainted with the Scions after their initial meeting, and through out the story, you see them often joining the Scions in their quest. At the final moment, where they were separated, Ryuugen and Nyx were separated, Ryuugen follows the WoL to Ishgard, while Nyx was seemingly dead. (He comes back in Endwalker at Garlemald)

| Before ARR

Ryuugen's Origin was in Gridania, a soldier who was patroling and doing his job but, he was seen as an outlaw and that caused him to be barred from entering Gridania ever since he looked out for a random citizen. He was betrayed by them as they explained that "He was trying to steal my stuff" despite Ryuugen helping them out. With his helmet on, he travels to another city where he was more in his element, to Ul'Dah. He meets Nyx there, and they become close friends.

Ryuugen was the kind of guy who is quiet, stoic, unmoving and somebody who doesn't feel like he has much presence. But in Meteor's eyes, he was a reliable Gunbreaker, a guy who just knows what he needs at the right times. Would listen to you, provide insight like Urianger did, but he probably must've added on to Urianger most of the time than to be able to Divine things like he does. Perhaps Ryuugen was the only other person who knew about Ardbert, but from a distance. "I've talked to him once before. He was... just like you." It almost seemed like he was a Warrior of Light, but he never was. He always worked in the shadows, kinda like Thancred.
